The Chicago Plan Commission was very busy approving what will be the third-tallest building in Chicago – Vista Tower. The tower, designed by Studio Gang, is due to be completed around 2019.

The commission also approved the new Riverline as its largest development, located along the riverfront southeast of the intersection of Harrison and Wells. The Riverline will cover over 6 acers of land and be comprised of five high rise buildings, a new park, and public access to the river front – all designed by Perkins + Will.

Not to overlook what some might say is the ‘core’ development along the Chicago River and Michigan Avenue, the new Apple Store was approved. The new store is Foster+Partners’ first project in Chicago. Located entirely below the plaza will be the retail section. The above section has been designed to be as transparent as possible. Construction is expected to start early next year.

In addition to the aforementioned developments, the commission approved even more! To see them all – click this link for an article written by our docent, Shawn Ursini. Come on an Architectural Tour in 2016 to see these improvements from the Chicago River!
